Caliper

The caliper is a precision measuring instrument. There are varieties such as depth caliper and hole caliper, but the measurement systems of all are the same.

Standard caliper

It is a sliding instrument that measures the area between its two jaws. Its shape roughly resembles a pipe wrench. It consists of a moving part floating on a fixed ruler. The wandering part is called the vernier. It is used in many industries. Its sensitivity depends on the job being done.

The basic parts of the calipers are as follows.

1. Fixed and Movable Jaws; It is used to measure the outer dimensions of the part.
2. Fixed and Movable Inner Diameter Jaw (Rooster); It is used to measure the remaining widths, holes and channels inside the part.
3. Depth gauge (Sword); It provides convenience in measuring the height of the part, it is used to measure the depths on the part.
4. Metric Ruler; It is the part of the caliper used to read the values in “mm”.
5. Inch measuring ruler; It is the part of the caliper used to read values in "inches".
6. Metric vernier; It allows reading the decimal value of the part in "mm". It is the place where more precise measurement in “mm” is taken.
7. Inch vernier; Allows reading the decimal value of the part in “inches.” This is where the more precise measurement in inches is taken.
8. Fixing latch; fixes the movable jaw
