Abrasives are a material used to remove surface roughness and obtain a smooth surface, as well as to clean rust, old paint and varnish. It consists of abrasive crystallized sand grains. It is generally used in many areas in the construction and manufacturing sector.

Sanding is the smoothing of surfaces made of materials such as metal, wood, marble, plaster. It is the last treatment before painting and priming. In addition, abrasives are used in the process of removing old paint and varnishes on wooden surfaces. It is also used to clean rust and dirt on metal surfaces.

In constructions, sanding is done to smooth the walls made of satin plaster before painting. Sandpapers are made by hand as well as with sanding blocks or sanding machines. Sandpaper is classified according to the size of the crystallized sands on the surface.

Abrasives are classified according to their thickness by making certain numbers. In our country, it is divided into classes according to the "Sand" values specified in the American Standards (CAMI). It is possible to find sandpaper in different thicknesses, generally starting from 40 grit and up to 3000 grit in the market.

The higher the grit value, the smaller the grain size and the finer the sandpaper. In other words, 40 grit sandpaper is thick, 3000 grit is thin. Abrasives with different grit values are used according to the type of production.
